Discovery

Ashlynn has officially discovered her hands. Well, it happened a couple weeks ago I just haven't been on here much in a while. Anyway, she looks at them so much she makes herself cross-eyed. She also got a glimpse of her feet a couple nights ago, so I think that will be the next big discovery. She has also learned how to laugh. It's absolutely adorable. In fact, the night she laughed for the first time we decided we had to buy a video camera so from then on out we could get moments like that on video.

Oh, and we have great news about her little kidney problem. We had some tests done a couple weeks ago. The doc said he feels like she has just a minor blockage causing the hydronephrosis - and that it should correct itself on its own. We go back in 3 months to monitor its progress, but that seems like all we are going to have to do!

GRADUATION DAY!

Well, I can't believe it, but it's finally over! I graduated from nursing school yesterday and can finally say I did it! All I have to do now is take Boards in a few weeks and pray to pass!

I must say that being in nursing school and having a baby was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. I'm so glad I got through it. I couldn't have done it without the strength the Lord handed me every day, the daily and continuous support of my loving husband, and the encouragement from so many others.

Two month check-up

Ashlynn had her two month well baby check up today. He said everything is going well and that she looks right on track. She also got her shots today. I don't know who it was worse for - her or me. I cried every bit as much as she did. I guess that's what moms do. Anyway, she now weighs 11 pounds and is 22 1/4 inches long. She can already hold her head up really well, drools and blows bubbles constantly, and loves to grin at me and Virgil. She's trying really hard to laugh but hasn't gotten the hang of that just yet.

Well, I had an interview yesterday for an RN position in the ER at Methodist North here in Memphis. They called me about 3 hours after the interview and offered me the job and I took it! I start in January!

Kidney Business

Well, our pediatrician has evaluated the results of the CT scan they did on Ashlynn tuesday. He said he feels like it might be something a little different than what the ultrasound doctor told us. He feels like it is something called hydronephrosis, which is similar, but a little different than renal polyactesis. He has referred us to a Pediatric Urologist, a kidney specialist for babies. He is working us in and wants to see us first thing in the morning. So please be in prayer about this. Since they are working us in and seeing us so quickly, it makes me kind of nervous about how serious this may be. Here is a link if you want to read about hydronephrosis (thought you might want to check it out mom) *wink*. http://www.childrenshospital.org/az/Site1117/mainpageS1117P0.html

Ashlynn's 2 week check up

Ashlynn had her 2 week well-baby checkup today. It went very well! We also had an ultrasound done on her kidney. On the last ultrasound they did of her in utero, they saw a slight abnormality with her left kidney. So they did another ultrasound on her today to look at it again. There is an abnormality present. It is called Renal Polyactesis. It means the renal pelvis is dilated, possibly caused from an obstruction at the ureter. Her abnormality is minimal, but it is still there. Sometimes it corrects itself within the first year of life. But they will continue to monitor it closely because if it doesn't correct itself, they may have to do surgery. It can lead to kidney failure if it is not corrected. So...I'm so thankful that they caught the abnormality. If I had not gotten that food poisoning, they would not have done that last ultrasound and we probably would not have known. So thank God for the food poisoning! *smile* God works in mysterious ways...

After lots of hard work, late nights and weekends studying, and much prayer, Virgil has finally passed the last part of the CPA exam! After some logistical paper work, he will officially have his CPA license. I am so proud of him - I just had to brag about it!

The Kings

Virgil and I decided that creating a blog would be a great way to keep up with everyone, and to help everyone keep up with us. So...we're new at this and still trying to figure it out, but welcome to our website!

We have been married for over two years now and are currently living in Memphis, TN. Virgil is a tax accountant and I am in nursing school and will graduate in December, finally!

We are in the middle of many changes and exciting things as we begin our own little family. We added a miniature dachsund named Dixie to our family of two last year and just welcomed another addition last week, our first little daughter, Ashlynn Grace. She was born September 11th at 7:30 a.m., weighed 7 pds. 2 oz., was 20 inches long, and has a head of hair.

Life couldn't be better right now. We are simply enjoying all the blessings God has sent our way - especially our precious little baby.
